David Lewis, piano
David Lewis began his career in New York as the conductor of the original cast of Godspell. His music can be heard on the soundtracks of the films Fame and Shoot the Moon, directed by Alan Parker, Paul Mazursky's Tempest with Susan Sarandon and The Fan, in which he also played the part of Lauren Bacall's musical director.
He made his off-Broadway acting debut in Jack Heifner's Star Treatment playing, again, a confidante-pianist to a tempestuous club singer. David remembers fondly his "Reno Sweeney" years, arranging and appearing with Diane Keaton, Joan Hackett, Edie Beale, Judy Kaye, Laurie Beechman, KT Sullivan and Butterfly McQueen, among others.
David has toured throughout the world with Barbara Cook, Lorna Luft, Andrea McArdle, Hildegard, the Theatre Guild, 20 years with the "Sesame Street" tours, and while a student, with the University of Michigan Jazz Band for the cultural exchange program for the U. S. State Department. He appeared at the Algonquin Hotel and in Europe with Andrea Marcovicci for 9 seasons.
He has been associated with the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts for the past 23 years. David has been the host and musical director at the Museum of the City of New York's salutes to Noël Coward, Frank Loesser, Richard Rodgers, "Harlem Then and Now," and "New York--Songs of the City." He performed throughout the country as a soloist and with his orchestra, and has performed with Peter Duchin and Alex Donner and their orchestras.
David appeared with Barbara Walters on the New York City Television spots, recently appearing on The View playing Barbara's Celebrity Wedding. This winter, he appeared on Martha Stewart's new show, Martha, with Carol Channing. David is proud of his 11 year collaboration with Kitty Carlisle Hart, recently breaking all attendance records at Feinstein's at the Regency.
